The Scots (3-5-1, 8-8-2) were dealt a heartbreaking loss today to end their season at the hands of Albion College (6-2-1, 12-3-2). The Scots played hard all game, but to late goals gave the Britons the 2-0 win and the right to advance in the MIAA Tournament.
The match was even for almost all 90 minutes before the two late goals even though neither team could find their rythm due to the wet and sloppy conditions.
"Today was a tough one for us, I really thought we had a chance to bring home the win. However, it was good to see the growth we have made this year. The improvements from the beginning of the season until the end were great and were noticeable at several times in today's match," commented Head Coach Jeff Hosler after the game.
Sophomore Kelly Walsh (Linden/Fenton) played outstanding controlling the middle for the Scots and got off a couple of real good shots that just didn't find the back of the net. Senior Kim Hoetzel (Clawson/Clawson) was an anchor on the defensive end of the field and had another solid game for the Scots in the loss.
With the loss, the Scots have to say goodbye to a talented group of seniors whose contributions on the field and off have had a huge impact on the turn around that has begun with the Women's Soccer Program at Alma College.
Of his seniors, Hosler added, "Our seniors played hard all season, in games and in practice, and the leadership they provided to this relatively young team was invaluable to whatever success we enjoyed this season."
