ALMA, Mich. - The women's soccer team overcame a one-goal deficit early in the half and cold, rainy weather at Scotland Yard to defeat Adrian College 2-1 and earn the team's first MIAA win of the season while handing the Bulldogs their first loss in league play. Alma is now 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in the MIAA while Adrian falls to 2-9, 1-1 in the league.
Adrian got on the board first in teh 13th minute when Lindsay Chitwood scored unassisted, but the Scots answered in teh 30th minute when a foul just outside the Adrian box gave Alma a scoring opportunity. Kim Hoeltzel (Clawson) had the ball while Rachel Comfort (Eastpointe/South Lake) converted to tie things up.
The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1 and the game remained that way until the 52nd minute when Comfort got the ball to Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall) for the game-winning goal.
Adrian out-shot the Scots 8-6, but Alma held the 3-2 advantage in the second half.
The Maroon and Cream return to action Tuesday when they host Hope College at 4 p.m.
