ALMA, Mich. - Scotland Yard saw yet another overtime game this afternoon as the Scots and the Flying Dutch battled to a 3-3 double overtime draw. Forcing double overtime was Rachel Comfort's (Eastpoint/South Lake) conversion on a penalty kick in the 88th minute after a foul inside the box.
The Scots got on the board first as freshman Kelley Walsh (Linden/Fenton) scored in the 13th minute when Tara Fitzsimmons (Marshall) shot and her rebound went Walsh's way and Walsh was able to convert.
Hope answered in the 23rd minute when Allie VanBeek scored unassisted. But Kelly Walsh got the quick go-ahead goal at 26:59 with the assist coming from Rachel Comfort.
Then, Hope scored the game-tying goal at 36:10 on a goal from Sarah Cochrane when she hit the back of the net from 20 yards out. Through halftime and 25 minutes of the second half, neither team scored until the 76th minute when Cochrane scored again when the Ball snuck past keeper Ivyrose Hess (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Central) for the Flying Dutch's third goal of the game.
But the penalty kick awarded to the Scots at 87:13 meant Alma had a chance - and Comfort converted - to send the game into overtime.
For the game, Alma out-shot Hope 28-23, but Hope held the distinct advantage in the second overtime, 4-1.
Both goalkeepers were busy on the day as Hess made 11 saves while Hope's Holly Nestle had 15.
Tara Fitzsimmons led the Scots with seven shots, including two on goal but Kelly Walsh put each shot taken on goal in scoring twice.
Alma returns to action this Saturday against Albion College in the Scots' Homecoming game.
