McCarthy Picks Up Third Straight Shutout With 1-0 Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team (2-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAA) defeated Adrian in the Scots' MIAA opener Thursday, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Pam McCarthy (Flushing/Powers Catholic) netted her third-straight shutout and sophomore Angie Szatkowski (North Muskegon) scored the game-winner as the Scots remain undefeated on the season.

The Scots scored midway through the first half off a corner kick when Szatkowski found the back of the net on an assist from sophomore Chelsey Volant (Gaylord).

The Maroon and Cream were able to maintain control and dictate the pace of the game, not allowing the Bulldogs a legitimate scoring opportunity through 90 minutes. The defense of Megan Murphy (Gaylord), Christine Wheatley (Plymouth/Salem), Alison Tolly (Mason/Okemos), Megan Thompson (Royal Oak/Dondero) and Geri Gaskell (Greenbush/Oscoda) proved to be too much for Adrian.

The Scots open play at Scotland Yard Saturday (Sept. 10) at 2 p.m. when they host Tri-State University in another MIAA match-up.
