Hornets Sting Scots

ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team lost to Kalamazoo 2-1 today to fall to 4-8-1, 3-7-0 in MIAA play.

The Scots played well throughout the game, anchored on defense by goalkeepers Pam McCarthy (Flushing/Powers Catholic) and Brandi Wright (Holt). McCarthy made two saves and allowed the first goal of the game when K'zoo's Colleen Bender found the back of the net to go up 1-0.

The Scots countered when they converted on a corner kick, taken by Elizabeth Daley (Lum/Lapeer East), just four minutes out of halftime. Rachel Dotson (Chelsea) scored the goal on an assist from Megan Thompson (Royal Oak/Dondero).

The teams were tied - but not for long - as Kzoo scored the eventual game-winner int he 53rd minute of play.

Alma returns to competition Sunday when it travels to St. Mary's in Notre Dame, Ind.
