KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alma College women's soccer suffered a heartbreaking loss to Kalamazoo Saturday (Oct. 23) as they battled not only the Hornets, but frigid and wet conditions only to lose, 1-0, in the final two minutes of the contest.
Scots goalkeeper Pam McCarthy (Flushing/Flint Powers) made critical saves as the Hornets fired 18 shots on the day while the Maroon and Cream took just nine. The Orange and Black managed to force four corner kicks while Alma could not generate one of its own.
Despite the statistical advantage, the Scots and Hornets battled through 88 scoreless minutes. With 1:44 remaining, Kalamazoo found the back of the net to take the victory.
The game proved to be a mirror image of the first meeting between Alma and Kzoo as the Hornets took a 1-0 victory at Scotland Yard on Sept. 25.
With the loss, the Scots fall to 5-10-1, 5-7-1 in conference action. They enjoy a full week of rest before returning to action when Alma hosts Albion at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 30.
