ANGOLA, Ind. - Alma College women's soccer defeated Tri-State in an overtime contest on a goal from Kelle Sajdak (Lincoln Park). The Scots played through regulation in a scoreless tie and headed into the extra period looking for their fifth win of the season. They found it when Angie Szatkowski (North Muskegon) got the ball to Sajdak to end the game, 1-0, in the Scots' favor.
Pam McCarthy (Flushing/Flint Powers) picked up the shutout for the Scots, making five saves for the Maroon and Cream. Sajdak led the Scots in scoring opportunities with three shots, two of them on goal. Christina Harig (Honor/Benzie Central) added two shots of her own to pressure the Thunder.
The Scots made the most of their scoring chances as they were out-shot by Tri-State, 13-11. McCarthy's strong presence in goal helped the Scots stave off any Thunder offense as Alma was out-cornered, 2-0, in the overtime stanza. The win improves the Scots' record to 5-9-1, 5-6-1 in MIAA play while Tri-State falls to 2-11-1, 0-11-1 in conference play.
The Scots continue their road swing when they visit Kalamazoo College Saturday, Oct. 23 at Noon. The teams last met on Sept. 25, in Alma as the Hornets took a narrow 1-0 decision. Kzoo is currently fourth in the league standings, two spots ahead of the Scots.
