ALMA, Mich. – Alma College Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of David Foster '16 as the next head coach of the Men's Lacrosse program, as announced by Athletics Director Dr. Phil Miller.
"What a special day for Alma College and our Athletics Department as we welcome David Foster back to campus," said Miller. "Throughout the search process, David consistently demonstrated the passion, leadership, and vision necessary to advance our men's lacrosse program. We are excited for him to build on the program's strong foundation and lead Alma Men's Lacrosse toward its brightest future yet."
Foster comes from East Kentwood High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he was the Varsity Head Coach and the Defensive Coordinator for the program for the past two seasons. While leading the Falcons varsity program, Foster coached several Ottawa-Kent Red All-Conference athletes and helped win the programs first game in over three years, while recruiting new players each season and building a strong foundation with team culture and beliefs. Additionally, Foster coaches out of the True Lacrosse club program, coaching the class of 2029s while focusing on the offensive side of the field as an all-around coach.
Prior to East Kentwood, Foster coached at Glenwood Springs High School in Colorado as the junior varsity coach where he had taken a very young and developing team to the highest win total in program history in 2022. Foster's role of developing the athletes towards the varsity program, where he also assisted in offensive coordination for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, also showed success as the team qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 2024.
Foster's collegiate coaching experience started at Augustana College (IL) where he was the recruiting coordinator as well as handling the offense and substitutions during gameplay. While with the Vikings, Foster helped the program total 15 wins between the two seasons while coaching three All-Conference athletes before transitioning to the University of Providence (MT), again as an assistant coach.
"I could not be more excited to take over the role of Head Coach at Alma College. My experience as a student-athlete at Alma has opened so many doors and played such an important role in my life. I can't wait to get started and to provide a similar experience for our student-athletes. I want to thank the hiring committee, Dr. Joe Odenwald, Dr. Phil Miller, and the players for trusting me with this opportunity. I will do my best to make the college and the alumni proud," said Foster.
In addition to coaching, Foster has taught at the middle and high school levels since 2017 across a handful of states and regions, most recently at East Kentwood in World History, Debate, Civics and Sociology.
As a player of the Scots men's lacrosse program, Foster was a four-year letterwinner, playing in the eighth most games in history at 65 as an attacker/midfielder, recording 48 points from 25 goals and 23 assists. Foster was a part of the programs single season most wins in school history in his senior season in 2016, as the Scots recorded 13 wins as they fell to Albion College in the MIAA Tournament Championship. As a player, Foster amassed 33 wins with the Scots, improving each season as one of the winningest classes in program history as well.
An Ann Arbor native, Foster obtains a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, History and Social Studies from Alma in 2016.
