SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. – Dealing with better conditions following a rainy and windy opening round at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Spring Finale at HawksHead Links, the Alma College men's golf team wrapped up their 2025-26 season in round two at the championship, shooting an improved day two score of 313 (+25), for a weekend total of 634 (+58) in seventh place.
Alma's highest finisher came from senior Andrew Skellenger, who placed in a tie for tenth overall, shooting a day two score of 73 (+1) paired with his opening round 75 for a weekend total of 148 (+4). Day two saw three birdies from Skellenger in his final collegiate tournament. Sophomore Jaden Ducharme was Alma's next placer, finishing in a tie for 18th overall, shooting a day two score of 77 (+5), for a weekend total of 152 (+8). Ducharme made four birdies on the day for his second round, helping propel him a spot onto the All-MIAA Second Team, the Scots first golfer since Tait Morrissey in 2021 to receive the accolade. The Scots next golfer was William Lightle, finishing 40th in the field, with an improved day two score of 79 (+7), giving him a championship total of 164 (+20). Lightle recorded one birdie in his second round as well. Carter McCave placed 45th in the field, posting a round two score of 84 (+12), bringing his two-day total to 171 (+27). McCave posted two birdies in three holes in his final round. One spot behind in 46th was Easton Weder, scoring an 87 (+15) in the final round, giving him a tournament total of 173 (+29). Weder also recorded two birdies in his final round as well. The Scots individual player, Cooper Couch, finished in a tie for 47th place, scoring a day two improved score of 89 (+17), bringing a weekend total of 181 (+37). Couch also added two more birdies to the team total in his final round of the season as well.
Calvin University was named the MIAA Spring Finale tournament champion as well as the season long scoring average champion receiving the automatic bid to the NCAA National Championship. The Knights finished day two with a three-under score of 285 for an even par two-day total and edging out Trine University by eight shots. Hope College finished in third with a two-day total of 585, one shot behind the Thunder of Trine.
Individually, Jack Marzolino of Calvin was the tournament medalist, scoring a two-day total of 138 (-6), highlighted by a day two score of four-under. Ethan Tiller of Calvin finished second, one shot behind his teammate with a two-day score of 139 (-5), posting the lowest score in round two with a 67 (-5). Patrick Michael rounded out the top three with a tournament total of 143 (-1) as the final player under par for the championship.
Alma will graduate Skellenger along with Alex Bates who graduated this past December. The Scot will look to continue to rely on their young talent as they prepare for the upcoming fall season and look to climb up the leader board with the experience they have gained.
