ALLENDALE, Mich. – Braving the conditions and hitting the course on a breezy nad party rainy Friday, the Alma College men's gold team traveled west to compete in the Hope College Bob Ebels Invitational at The Meadows Golf Course on Grand Valley State University's campus. After day one, the Scots sit in tenth place with a team score of 315 (+31).
The Scots low round of the day came from Jaden Ducharme, who posted a five-over par 76, with two birdies, to place inside the top 20 at tied for 19th overall. One shot behind his teammate was Carter McCave, who shot a six-over 77, hanging around the top 20 as he placed tied for 25th in the field. Just two shots back, Andrew Skellenger finished in a tie for 39th place, posting an eight-over 79 in day one of competition. Josh Conney was the Scots final score used for the team score with an 83 (+12), placing him in a tie at 60th overall. Competing as the individual, Cooper Couch fired an 85 (+14) to place him tied for 69th for the tournament, looking to build on his play in round two. William Lightle finished his round with a 91 (+20), finishing in a tie for 79th place in the tournament field.
Fellow conference member, Trine University currently sits in first place as a team with a score of 295 (+11), the only team to score in the 200's for the day. Calvin University's "B" team sits in second with a 301 (+17) and Central College (IA) is in third with a 303 (+19). Individually, Josiah McClelland of Calvin, Ethan Tiller of Calvin, Patrick Michael of Hope and Carter Schnipke of trine are all tied for first with scores of 72 (+1). Carter Yurgae is in fifth, one-shot behind with a 73 (+2).
Alma will return to the course tomorrow for the final day of action of the Hope College Bob Ebels Invitational at 10:00 AM at The Meadows.
