Alma College Overwatch opened their Fall season against Williamson College. After a strong showing last season the team set their focus on integrating multiple new members into the starting lineup.
Williamson Gold-Shayne Zimmerman, Tony Brenes and Penni Webb all made their Alma Overwatch debut in week one! Starting on the map Busan, Alma came out of the gate ready to play, securing point before their opponents and racking up a quick 22% before falling behind after several team fights. Williamson would go on to win out on map before heading to map two. Senior Bryce Dehaan was a bright spot early in the season for the Scots tallying over 10k damage. Taking the fight to Neon Junction, Alma scored early taking point but would end their mission there as Williamson would score all three. With map three going Williamson's way, Alma would move to 0-1 on the season looking ahead to week two.
Clark University- Looking to bounce back from their week one loss, Alma again came out strong early taking solid percentage before falling behind. Game one would go to Clark University. Again choosing Neon Junction for the map, The Scots bounced back holding Clark to one point in map two and would tie the match score at 1-1. Shayne Zimmerman would lead the way on map two, scoring a team high 34 eliminations. New Junk City and Junkertown were next for the match, where Clark would take both victories. Scots fall to 0-2 on the season.
Buena Vista University- Week three proved to be the most back and forth match the Scots had seen so far. Buena Vista would strike first taking the first map of the week before both teams locked in and competition warmed up. Buena Vista would again take a hard fought game two but not after the Scots would score a point and finally falling in overtime. Game three of the match was all Alma College as the team put up their first shutout of the season winning 3-0. Killian Glover found success in game three tallying over 10k healing while also providing 6k damage. Alma would eventually fall to a Buena Vista rally and move to 0-3 on the season still looking for their first win.
University of Kentucky- Week four would see Alma facing off against Kentucky. Finding themselves in a hole, the team would retool their team compositions and starting roster seeing Freshman Ivy Martens make her Alma Esports debut. The team's fresh strategies would immediately make an impact as game one would go to The Scots and would be followed up by an impressive game two 3-0 win. Game three would prove to be the biggest back and forth of the set before Alma would win out finding their first win of the season!
Sitting at 1-3 and Two competitions remaining, The Alma Scots still hold a chance at playoff contention with a few solid results.
