Esports Ends Valorant Season After Playoff Appearance

Alma, MI - The Alma College Valorant team closed an impressive regular season, finishing with a 6-3 record. The roster of Jackson Hall, Donovan Salters, Tony Brenes, Rayanne Tsouli, Bhanudas Mahadik and Yassine Amraoui took the field this semester with Bhanudas and Yassine both being first year members of the team. 

Alma's success this season can be attributed to their ability to perform under pressure and secure critical wins against tough opponents.

  • Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU): Alma began the season with a crucial win against INWU. This match set the tone for the season, as the Scots quickly showed their ability to work together and execute strategies effectively. Freshman, Bhanudas Mahadik would lead the Scots in eliminations in this series as he immediately made an impact for the team! Ending with a final score of 2-1, this match showed how resilient this roster can be.

  • Albion College: Alma followed up with a solid win over Albion. This victory showcased their versatility, as they adapted to Albion's playstyle and controlled key areas of the map. Their strategic depth and communication was evident throughout the match. Final score was 2-0, Alma only losing 3 rounds across the two game contest. 

  • Bethel University: Facing Bethel was a test of Alma's resilience. In a closely contested series, Alma showed their mental toughness, coming out on top with a hard-fought victory. Bethel brought a strong challenge, but Alma's coordination in high-pressure moments made the difference. Jackson Hall would be crucial for Alma in this match, making strong shot calls around the map allowing the team to secure space and strong angles. This series ended in another 2-1 finish showing the close competition of the league. 

  • Cleary University: The match against Cleary demonstrated Alma's continued growth. With a focused approach, the Valorant team executed their tactics flawlessly, ensuring a convincing win that reinforced their position in the standings. Final score 2-0 in favor of Alma. 

  • Lourdes University: Alma's Donovan Salters would lead the Scots to their fifth victory of the season having another incredible game for the Scots. Alma takes the 2-0 victory. 

  • Saint Xavier University (SXU): Alma's final win of the regular season came against SXU, another tough opponent. The Valorant team delivered an excellent performance, with each member contributing significantly to the team's success. Their strategic rotations and crisp executions ensured a well rounded victory and a playoff birth!

Alma would move on to playoffs before being knocked out in semifinals and finishing their Fall 2024 campaign. The Valorant team will be back in action next semester as they compete against other MIAA schools in BEL.
