Men's Swimming Defeats Kalamazoo in Dual Action for First Time Ever

The Scots 173-119 win is the first against Kzoo in the program's history, dating back to 1971

Kalamazoo, MI – Alma College Swimming and Diving closed out its regular season Saturday with a dual meet at Kalamazoo College. The Scots women fell 160-140, while the Alma men earned a 173-119 victory, the program's first win over Kalamazoo in the 55-year history of Alma College men's swimming and diving.

On the women's side, the 200 medley relay team of Sofia Floros, Lily Smith, Laney Voisinet, and Sierra Scott opened with a second-place finish. Val Vinci followed with second in the 1,000 freestyle. Voisinet picked up wins in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM and added a runner-up finish in the 100 free. Scott took second in both the 100 back and 100 fly and placed third in the 50 free. Floros placed third in the 100 back, second in the 200 back, and later won the 500 freestyle. Smith won the 100 breaststroke by nearly four seconds and was second in the 200 breast. Abi Spitzley added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly, while Delilah Zingelewicz was second in the 50 free. The 200 free relay team of Zoe Barringer, Zingelewicz, Spitzley, and Hannah Sullivan capped the meet with another second-place result.

In diving, freshman Abby Dumond recorded her first NCAA regional qualifying score on the one-meter board, winning the event with a 254.63. She followed with another victory on three-meter, posting a 272.78.

For the men, the 200 medley relay team of Morrison Wood, Brent Riehl, Andrew Barrett, and Sam Couch opened with a win. Eli Mull swept the distance events, winning the 1,000 and 500, as well as the 200 freestyle. Colin Moran placed second in the 1,000 and 500 free, while Ryan Fowler took third in both events. Max Nielsen was second in the 200 free and third in the 100 fly, and Nolan Kaiser added thirds in the 200 free, 50 free, and 100 free. Wood finished second in both backstroke events, with Kyle Scheck taking third in the 100 back. Cody Benkovsky won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and added a third-place finish in the 200 IM. Anthony Kulka placed third in the 100 breast. Barrett was second in the 200 fly, while Colton Ralko took third in both the 200 fly and 200 back. Couch was second in the 50 free. Riehl earned victories in the 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM. The meet concluded with a win in the 200 free relay from Couch, Barrett, Kaiser, and Noah Newman.

The Scots now turn their attention to the MIAA Championships, which begin February 18.
