Riehl Sets 200 Breastroke Record at MIAA Winter Invite

Dumond notches top three finish in diving action

Grand Rapids, MI – Alma College Swimming and Diving was in action on Saturday, taking part in the MIAA Winter Invite. Alma finished 4th on both the men's and women's sides, with the men racking up 272 and the women 299. Brent Riehl broke the Alma College 200 breaststroke record. He posted a 2:11.76, besting Ian Moore's 2:13.27 set in 2013.
 
For the men, the relay team of Andrew Barrett, Anthony Kulka, Max Nielsen, and Noah Newman teamed up to place 11thin the 400-medley relay. Brent Riehl was the headliner on the afternoon. The senior opened his day with a 4th place finish in the 50 freestyle, following that up with a 6th place mark in his record breaking 200 breaststroke. Eli Mull recorded a 5thplace finish in the 500 freestyle. Colin Moran placed 9th in the 1,650 freestyle, also placing 10th in the 500. Ryan Fowler took 11th in the 1,650 freestyle, and 12th in the 500. Barrett went on to place 12th in the 200 butterfly, with Colton Ralko taking 14th, and Kulka in 15th. Nolan Kaiser took 14th in the 100 free. Morrison wood took 15th in the 200 backstroke. Cody Benkovsky took 16th in the 200 breaststroke. Closing things out, the relay team of Mull, Nielsen, Owen Reed, and Newman placed 7th in the 200-freestyle relay.
 
On the women's side, the 400-medley relay team of Sofia Floros, Lily Smith, Sierra Scott, and Laney Voisinet placed 8th. Val Vinci took 8th place in the 1,650 freestyle, and 13th in the 500 free. Zoe Barringer grabbed 10th in the 1,650, and placing 15th in the 200 back. Aubrey Hawks took 12th in the 200 freestyle, and placed 16th in the 200 backstroke. Heidi Ragainis took 14th in the 200 freestyle. Smith took 16th in the 200 freestyle, and 13th in the 200 breaststroke. Laney Voisinet placed 9th in the 200 butterfly, and 16th in the 50 freestyle. Delilah Zingelewicz took 14th in the 400 I.M. Emma Hoy was 16th in the 400 I.M., also collecting a 10th place finish in the 500 free. Abi Spitley landed a 10th place finish in the 200 butterfly. Floros went on to place 11th in the 200 backstroke. Hannah Sullivan secured a 12th place finish in the 500 freestyle. Closing out the meet, the relay team of Scott, Zingelewicz, Sullivan, and Floros took 6th in the 200 freestyle relay.
 
In diving action, Abigail Dumond was 3rd on the women's three-meter, and 4th on the one-meter, with Maddie McGuire taking 20th. Cooper Couch placed 10th on the men's three-meter.
 
The Scots are back in action on January 31 as they wrap up dual meet action at Kalamazoo.
