Women's Soccer Nets Three Goals in Home Opening Win Over Grace Christian

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College women's soccer team hosted their 2025 home opener after three games on the road on Saturday, September 6th, as Grace Christian University came to town for a tilt on Scotland Yard. The Scots bested the Tigers by a score of 3-0 opening the home athletics events for 2025 on a cloudy and breezy afternoon.

The Scots opened the game with pressure and control from the offense and never looked back as Grace Christian was unable to register a shot in the contest. Alma was able to test the Tigers goalkeeper putting five shots on net that were all saved in the first 30 minutes of the game. The ice was broken just several minutes later as Ava Hoffman was able to sneak a ball past the net minder for her third goal of the season in four games. Alma regained control out of the stoppage following the goal and was able to put another shot on net, though heading into the break, the Scots led by one.

The Second frame saw the Scots jump right back into their offense and continue to put pressure on the Tigers defense and goalkeeping. GCU proved tough though as they were able to hold the Scots to several shots but nothing in the back of the net. That all changed in the 83rd minute as Emily Snider notched the Scots second goal of the game as the box was chaos with several bounces before ending up in Snider's possession and ultimately in the back of the net. Just two minutes later, as Alma drove back down the offensive zone, Aaleyah Marcellus fired a shot towards the left side of the net, that was out of the reach of the goalkeeper and gave Alma their third and final goal of the contest as time dwindled down.

The Scots accumulated 27 shots in the contest, 15 being on goal. Alma also outnumbered Grace Christian in corner kicks with eight to the Tigers one. The Scots 27 shots were the most in a game since 2021, where Alma put 39 shots up in a 3-0 win against Manchester University as well. Mallory Fee started the goal in net, playing two-thirds of the game before Min Coulombe finished out the remainder for a shutout by committee for Alma.

The Scots will hit the road again for a midweek match up against Franklin College, back in Indiana on Wednesday, September 10th. The midweek contest looks to kickoff at 4:00 PM across state lines.
