LAKEVILLE, Ind. – The Alma College women's soccer team secured their second win of the season as they continued non conference play, once again outside Michigan state lines, as they competed against the Titans of Indiana University South Bend on Wednesday, September 3. The Scots scored the opening three goals of the game en route to a 3-1 win for the midweek match up.
Alma opened the scoring around the ten-minute mark of play, following a corner kick about 30 seconds before, where the ball was bouncing around in the box and freshman Grace Sczepanski notched her second goal of the season as she tapped the ball across the line, cleaning up an attempt by Bryn Bishop who assisted on the goal. After getting the ball rolling and the ice was broken, Alma kept the momentum and added their second tally of the game just ten minutes later, Ava Hoffman also collected her second goal of the season as she put the Scots up 2-0 around the 20-minute mark. The scoring frenzy for Alma did not stop there though as following the second goal, Alma rushed down the field again and continued to put shots on net forcing the keeper to make saves often and early. The Scots were able to squeeze another one across the line at the 27-minute mark as Aubri Torok scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Sczepanski, putting Alma up to 3-0. Shots continued to be created and put on goal from Alma as the first half came to a close.
Alma returned to their offensive pressure in the second half as the Scots were able to put together five more shots for a game total of 16 shots, 11 of which were on net. The Titans broke through the Alma defense in the 84th minute, bringing the deficit down to two, but would be held scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Sczepanski ended the contest with a game-high three points off a goal and an assist, along with Mya Pofahl making three saves for the full 90.
Alma will now towards their attention towards the home opener, scheduled for Saturday, September 6th, against Grace Christian University on Scotland Yard at the Greg Hatcher Athletics Campus. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
