Sczepanski Tallies Two in Women's Soccer's 4-0 Win Over Bluffton

ALMA, Mich. – Back on home turf on Scotland Yard, the Alma College women's soccer team revenged a midweek setback with an offensive explosion on Saturday, September 20th. Facing the Bluffton University Beavers, the Scots offense found its gear and cruised to a 4-0 victory, moving to 6-2 on the season.

Alma kept the Beavers on defense early from the initial kickoff, laying pressure on the back line and creating scoring chances. The Scots thought they found the net early in the contest, but it would be waved off for offside deep inside the goalkeeper's box. Alma wouldn't be turned away though as Grace Sczepanski found the back of the net following a shot by Abby Jones that was tipped up towards the crossbar by the Bluffton keeper but fell to Sczepanski's feet and she was able to bury it for the game's first goal. Just five minutes later, a near identical shot, this time from Ava Hoffman, was tipped up towards the crossbar and came settling down in front of the net, where Sczepanski again found herself with a tap-in goal for her second of the contest, bringing the Scots lead to 2-0. Bluffton would settle down defensively though the offense would struggle for the remainder of the half, not registering a shot heading into the break.

Just nine minutes into the second frame, Ava Hoffman dropped a pass back to Ivy Beall, who fired a shot towards the bottom right corner of the net, where it was tipped off the goalkeeper and rolled over the line, giving Beall her first collegiate goal of her career. Shortly following the Beall goal, Hoffman after assisting on the last was able to head a shot crossing in the box from Brenna Rohloff and give the Scots their fourth goal of the game and Hoffman's fifth on the season. After the fourth and final goal of the contest, both teams saw chances but ultimately the defenses held up and kept the game at a 4-0 final score.

Mya Pofahl started the game between the pipes, registering one save before Min Coulombe came in as relief for the final 20 minutes of action.

Alma will now have a week before their next contest, where they will play again at Scotland Yard, facing off against Ohio Christian University. Start time for the Saturday, September 27th, contest is set for 1:00 PM.
