ALMA, Mich. – Returning to action after a week off from games, the Alma College women's soccer team did not miss a beat and picked up where they left off at, scoring another win on the season over Ohio Christian University. The Scots held the Trailblazers shot less throughout the contest on their way to a 5-0 win.
Alma kicked the game off early and broke the tie in the first two minutes of action as Ava Hoffman netted her sixth goal of the season on a shot to the left side of the goal. Alma didn't let up after their tally though as the Scots kept putting shots towards the net looking for the insurance goal early on. The Scots would find quality chances that were just off the mark though kept the momentum in favor. Ava Stowell would record the second Scots goal on a shot outside the box from the left that snuck by the keeper, giving Alma a 2-0 lead. Just shortly after, Alma added another to the total from Allyson Harvey, who found the back of the net from a Kaitlyn Reyburn pass to set her up nicely with an open net to score. Alma controlled the pace and momentum throughout the first half, registering 13 shots total in the first 45.
Opening the second half, Ohio Christian made a handful adjustments that would create different looks for the Scots personnel. Alma still controlled the pace and possessions as the Scots found themselves on offense for much of the game. The Scots would add to their lead around the 75-minute mark as Emily Ahearn cut across the box and sent a hard-hit ball into the back of an open net, giving Alma their fourth of the game. The Scots final goal came just nine minutes later as Allyson Harvey came racing down the right side of the field and sent a ball into the box where Grace Buckingham was able to direct towards the net and give Alma their fifth and final goal of the game.
Harvey led all players with three points on a goal and an assist in the contest, as Alma had 29 players enter the field on Saturday. All three goalies saw action between the pipes though the Trailblazers did not register a shot in the contest. Hannah Meyer and Ahearn led all players with three shots apiece throughout the game.
Alma will now turn their attention towards conference season as they will open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play against Calvin University on Tuesday, September 30th. The MIAA game is scheduled for a 7:00 PM kickoff under the lights on the campus of Calvin University.
