KANSASVILLE, Wis. – With summer-like conditions in the middle of September, the Alma College men's golf team traveled around Lake Michigan to compete in the highly-touted Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine University. The two-day 45-team tournament sees some of Division III's highest competition and top talent for 36-holes. The Scots currently sit in 31st after day one with a team score of 317 (+29).
Coming in as the Scots low in round one was freshman Easton Weder, who fired a 76 (+4), which places him in a tie for 66th overall. Teammate Jaden Ducharme was just narrowly behind, shooting a 78 (+6), tying for 91st in the field. Competing as the individual, freshman Dominic Daversa had his best outing of the season, scoring a 79 (+7), and tying for 109th in the tournament for round one. William Lightle put together a first round 81 (+9), good for 152nd overall through day one. Andrew Skellenger was one-shot behind with an 82 (+10), placing 165th for the Scots. Alex Bates closed out his opening round just one shot behind his teammate with an 83 (+11), currently sitting in 182nd heading into day two.
Individually, Ryan Tanzi of Wisconsin Lutheran College and Harrison Weddell of Nebraska Wesleyan University are currently tied for first after opening round 69s (-3), holding a one-shot lead over other competitors. After day one, 11 golfers find themselves under par in a field of 246 players. On the team side, Nebraska Wesleyan is the only team under par, with a day one score of 282 (-6), holding a ten-shot lead over Augustana University (IL).
Alma will return for round two at 8:30 AM central time, competing in the final round of the Midwest Region Classic.
