MARSHALL, Mich. – Competing in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) of the 2025-26 season for all sports, the Alma College men's golf team hit the course early on Monday morning, looking to jump out to a strong start in MIAA play. After 18 holes of conference play at Marshall Country Club, the Scots sit in fifth place, shooting a team score of 318 (+30), ahead of Kalamazoo College, Albion College and The University of Olivet.
The low round for the Scots belonged to Jaden Ducharme as he opened MIAA play with a four over 75, which tied him for eighth place in the field. Ducharme recorded 13 pars on his way to a 75. William Lightle followed closely behind posting a 77 (+6), placing him inside the top 20, tied for 18th. Playing as an individual, Easton Weder pieced together a solid round, finishing with an 81 (+10), which tied him for 30th at the conclusion of the round. Carter McCave and Andrew Skellenger both finished their rounds with 83's (+12), tying them for 38th place overall. The final Scot competing in conference action was Josh Cooney, who scored a 90 (+19), tying for 50th in the field.
Trine University took the team champion honors through the first competition with a team score of 300 (+16), three shots ahead of Hope College (303) and four shots ahead of Adrian College (304). Jack Vogel from the Adrian Bulldogs was crowned the individual medalist with a two-under 69, overcoming Garrett James of Trine University by one shot as the only two golfers under par.
Alma will return to non-conference play this upcoming Friday and Saturday, September 19th and 20th, as they will travel to Wisconsin for the Midwest Region Classic, hosted by Benedictine University. Rounds are set to begin at 8:30 AM CT and 1:30 PM CT.
