TECUMSEH, Mich. – The Alma College men's golf team hot the road south for a 36-hole tournament hosted at Tecumseh Golf Club by fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association member, Adrian College. After day one at the Irish Hills Invitational, the Scots find themselves nestled into fifth place, shooting a team score of 328 (+40).
Finish top five after round one and coming in as the low scorer for the Scots is William Lightle, who fired a three-over par 75 to tie for fourth overall. Alma's next lowest scorer was Carter McCave, who played as an individual for the tournament, shooting an 81 (+9), finishing tied for 18th. Just two shots behind was Andrew Skellenger, shooting an 83 (+11) tying for 21st in the field. A trio of Scots came into the clubhouse after round one with 85's (+13) as Alex Bates, Josh Cooney and Jaden Ducharme all tied for 26th for day one. In his first collegiate start as a freshman, Easton Weder also competed as an individual, finished round one with an 86 (+14), tying for 29th.
Charlie Parker of Wittenberg University came in as the low individual for day one, posting an even par 72, holding a two-shot lead over the nearest competitors. Host Adrian College sits atop the team leader board after round one with a team score of 306 (+18), seven shots ahead of The College of Wooster.
Alma will return to the fairways tomorrow at 10:00 AM, closing out the final round at the Irish Hills Invitational.
