RICHMOND, Ind. – The Alma College men's golf team closed out their first tournament of the season on Saturday, August 30th, in round two of the Indiana University East Fall Invitational. The men improved upon their day one score by six strokes, shooting a 301 (+13) for a two-day total of 608 (+32), placing seventh.
Finishing the highest on the leader board for the Scots was Jaden Ducharme who stay steady on day two shooting a 75 (+3) for a weekend total of 147 (+3), placing him in a tie for 15th overall. Improving on his day one score and not far behind his teammate on the leader board was William Lightle, shooting a 73 (+1), improving by four shots. Lightle ended the weekend with a total of 150 (+6), tying him for 20th in the field. Also finishing tied for 20th was Andrew Skellenger, who fired a team-low 71 (-1), improving by eight shots from round one. Skellenger birdied a third of the holes in Saturday's round en route to a two-day total of 150 (+6). Competing as the individual for the tournament, Josh Cooney finished the weekend in a tie for 28th, following a second round 77 (+5). Cooney's two-day total of 152 (+8) placed him as the fourth lowest scorer on the team for the weekend. Dominic Daversa finished his second collegiate round with an 82 (+10), giving him a tournament score of 162 (+18). Daversa finished the weekend in a tie for 43rd. Alex Bates rounded out the Scots lineup with an 84 (+12) on day two, bringing his weekend score to a 163 (+19), placing him 45th for the tournament.
Sam Firebaugh of IU East held onto his day one lead with a two-under 70 on day two to take the medalist rights by three shots over Kaden Gibson of Vincennes University. Host IU East also took the team championship with a two-day total of 555 (-21), by nine shots over Vincennes, who was also under par as a team at -12.
Alma will return to competition on Friday September 12th, when they will travel to Tecumseh Golf Club for the Irish Hills Invitational hosted by Adrian College. The two-day event will begin play at 11:00 AM both days.
