Dance Team Named National Champions in Jazz with Program Record Setting Performance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Alma College dance team competed in their first of two finals performances for 2025 on Friday, April 11th, hitting the stage for a second time in the Ocean Hall with their Jazz performance. Alma topped their program record score from prelims with a new program high score of 94.8857, a full point higher than their previous. The Scots new program record also propelled them to another National Championship in the Jazz Division III division for the third straight year

Following behind ADT, also scoring in the nineties was the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, who finished with a 90.1143, finishing in second place. Montclair State Univesity finished in third with a score of 89.8286, followed by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and New York University, who scored 87.4571 and 86.9714, respectively, rounding out those who qualified for finals.

"Winning our fourth consecutive Jazz National Championship and earning the highest score in program history is a testament to the heart these athletes bring every single day. I couldn't be more proud of the legacy they continue to build for this program" said Head Coach Tracy Burton. Alma competed in the 'Open' division for Jazz prior to Division III being added.

Alma's 94.8857 score ranks second in Division II, third in Division IA and second in Division I, as Alma will compete against these other divisions come Saturday in the Grand Champion competition, which was added this year for the first time, creating an exciting atmosphere and a chance for all division winners to showcase their talents for everyone to see on the stage one more time.

Keep your eyes out for Saturday's Grand Champion competition as the Scots have proved they can hang with the best and are looking to show people what Alma is made of.
