Grand Rapids, MI - Alma College swimming and diving completed their season on Friday and Saturday at the MIAA championships. The Scotts finished in fifth place on both the men and women's sides.
On the women's side, Friday night opened with the relay team of Sofia, Floros, Lily Smith, Emma Figlewicz and Laney Voisinet combining to take fifth place in the 200 yard medley relay. The bee relay of Anya Drewnicky, Megan, Black, Madi, Mendez and Isabel Lyshol took 10th. Figlewicz went on to place 12th in the 400 IM, also taking 12th in the 100 butterfly. Grace Ludema placed eighth in the 200 freestyle, with Megan Neeley coming in 10th, Mendez in 13th, and Kylie Demarets in 14th. Smith placed ninth in the 100 breaststroke, along with Voisinet, who placed 11th. Flores took 11th in the 100 backstroke.
On Saturday, Mendez opened the night placing fifth in the 1650 freestyle. Neeley and Floros took sixth and seventh respectively in the 200 backstroke, with Demarets and Black coming in 12th and 14th in the event. Ludema took home seventh place in the 100 yard freestyle. Voisinet and Drewnicki came in 10th and 16th. Smith took 12th in the 200 breaststroke. Figlewicz placed 10th in the 200 yard butterfly to round out the meet, the relay team of Neeley, Voisinet, Floros, and Ludema placed third in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
For the men, the team of Ryan, Gray, Brent Riehl, Andrew Barrett and Owen Reed combined to take fourth place in the 200 yard medley relay. The B relay of Ryan Fowler, Kyle Scheck, Max Nielsen and Seth Stahl took 10th. Scheck went on to take 13th and the 400 yard IM, and 14th in the 100 breaststroke. Nielsen placed 13th and the hundred butterfly. Riehl took home ninth in the 200 yard freestyle, joined in the scoring by Eli Mull in 13th, and Reed in 14th. Gray took 13th and 100 backstroke.
Opening Saturday night, Mull took second place in the 1650 freestyle, with Fowler coming in 12th, and Stahl placing 14th in the event. Gray placed 11th and the 200 yard backstroke. Riehl took 11th and 100 freestyle. Also scoring in the event was Nielsen and 13th, Barrett and 14th, and Reed in 15th. Scheck placed 16th in the 200 breaststroke. Closing out the meet, the relay team of Riehl, Nielsen, Mull, and Reed took fifth place in the 400 freestyle relay.
Alma's men finish in fifth place with a total of 290 points. The Scots finished ahead of Olivet who had 35 points, and behind Albion, who had 433. Calvin University won the men's championship with 1103 points.
The Scots women also finished in fifth with 381 points scored. Alma finished ahead of Olivet with 223, and nearly missed out on beating Kalamazoo who finished with 416. Hope College won the women's championship with 1170 points.
Alma's season comes to a close with more records broken and milestones met. The Scots will look to build on this season heading into 2025–26.
