Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Finish 7th at Malone Invite

Scots record 50 total personal bests in strong mid-season showing

Canton, OH – The Alma College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed Friday and Saturday at the Malone Invite, finishing seventh on both sides to close out their 2025 competition calendar. Alma recorded 50 personal best times over the course of the weekend.

For the women, the Scots opened Friday with an eighth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, featuring Sofia Floros, Lily Smith, Laney Voisinet, and Grace Ludema. Delilah Zingelewicz recorded Alma's first individual finals swim of the day, placing 20th in the 200 freestyle. In the 100 butterfly, Sierra Scott and Abi Spitzley finished 19th and 20th, respectively.

Alma showed strong depth in the 100 breaststroke, led by Voisinet in 12th, followed by Smith (14th), Sarah Rabbideau (17th), and Marie Halligan (24th). Floros later tied for 13th in the 100 backstroke, before the 800 free relay team of Val Vinci, Zoe Barringer, Hannah Sullivan, and Emma Hoy concluded the evening with a 10th-place finish.

On Saturday, Barringer opened the day with a 24th-place swim in the 1650 freestyle. Floros led the way in the 200 backstroke, finishing eighth, followed by Barringer in 17th and Megan Black in 21st. Ludema delivered Alma's top individual finish of the meet, taking fifth in the 100 freestyle, with Voisinet placing 19th. In the 200 breaststroke, Smith took 16th and Rabbideau placed 21st.

The Scots wrapped up the meet with a strong performance in the 400 freestyle relay, as Floros, Ludema, Voisinet, and Scott tied for fifth. Alma secured seventh overall.

On the men's side, action began Friday with an eighth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (Morrison Wood, Brent Riehl, Max Nielsen, and Noah Newman). In the 200 freestyle, Eli Mull and Colin Moran placed 19th and 22nd. Brett Gaff added an 18th-place swim in the 400 IM, and Riehl delivered a top-eight finish in the 100 butterfly (7th) ahead of Nielsen (20th), Nolan Kaiser (21st), and Andrew Barrett (23rd). Cody Benkovsky finished 17th in the 100 breaststroke, and Wood took 12th in the 100 backstroke. The 800 free relay of Riehl, Mull, Moran, and Nielsen closed Friday with a seventh-place finish.

Saturday began with a standout swim from Mull, who earned fifth in the 1650 freestyle, joined by Ryan Fowler in 19th. Wood (12th) and Gaff (18th) competed in the 200 backstroke, while Riehl added another strong finish with fifth in the 100 freestyle. Benkovsky took 12th in the 200 breaststroke, followed by Kyle Scheck in 21st. Anthony Kulka placed 23rd in the 200 butterfly before the 400 free relay of Mull, Riehl, Moran, and Barrett finished ninth to close the meet. Alma's men finished seventh in the team standings.

On the diving borards, Freshman Abigail Dumond headlined the diving events, placing third on the one-meter board with a score of 353.95, followed by teammate Maddie McGuire in 12th (191.20). Dumond went on to earn 2nd place on the three-meter board with a score of 332.00.

On the men's side, Cooper Couch placed 5th on the one-meter board with a score of 268.90.

The Scots have wrapped up their 2025 competition schedule and will return to action in January.
