Canton, OH – The Alma College men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened competition on Thursday night at the Malone Invite. After day one, the Scots sit sixth on the women's side and seventh on the men's side.
For Alma's women, evening kicked off with a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, featuring Delilah Zingelewicz, Laney Voisinet, Sofia Floros, and Grace Ludema. Floros later earned 19th in the 500 freestyle, while Voisinet tied for 13th in the 200 IM. Ludema highlighted the session with a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle, followed by Hannah Sullivan in 20th. The 400 medley relay closed the night with a 13th-place performance.
The Scots totaled 179.5 points to rank sixth out of 13 teams after day one. They trail Oberlin College (244 points) and hold a slight lead over host Malone (176 points).
The men opened with a 10th-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay behind the team of Noah Newman, Brent Riehl, Nolan Kaiser, and Morrison Wood. In individual races, Eli Mull placed 10th in the 500 freestyle, while Cody Benkovsky finished 22nd in the 200 IM. Riehl added a strong fourth-place swim in the 50 freestyle before the 400 medley relay capped the night with a 13th-place finish.
The Scots sit seventh of 12 teams with 144 points, trailing Washington & Jefferson (162) and narrowly ahead of Fairmont State (141).
Alma returns to the pool tomorrow, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
