Football Jumps Back into National Polls Ahead of NCAA Tournament

Alma appears in both the D3football.com and AFCA Top 25 for the first time this season

Alma, MI – Alma College Football has re-entered the national Top 25 in both major Division III polls this week, following the Scots' thrilling 35–34 victory over nationally ranked Adrian College that clinched their third outright MIAA championship in four seasons.

Alma appeared at No. 23 in the D3football.com Top 25 with 52 ranking points after spending the entire season in the receiving votes category. The Scots also checked in at No. 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, earning 75 points after similarly hovering just outside the Top 25 throughout the season.

The Scots enter the postseason at 8–2 overall and a perfect 7–0 in MIAA play, with a résumé built on a challenging schedule featuring several nationally recognized opponents. Alma opened the year against UW–River Falls (ranked 19th in both polls at the time) defeated MIAA rival and defending champion Hope College (then No. 15), routed a Calvin team receiving votes in the AFCA poll, and capped the regular season by upsetting Adrian (ranked No. 24 by the AFCA and receiving votes from D3football.com).

In the D3football.com national poll, 2025 CCIW champion and defending NCAA Division III national champion North Central College claimed the No. 1 spot with 625 points and all 25 first-place votes. They were followed by Mount Union (595) and UW–River Falls (572).

The AFCA poll mirrored the top of the rankings, with North Central again the unanimous No. 1, earning 1,300 points and all 52 first-place votes. Mount Union ranked second with 1,220 points, while Bethel (MN)—champions of the MIAC—checked in at third with 1,174 points.

Within the MIAA landscape, rival Hope College landed at No. 18 in the D3football.com poll and No. 15 in the AFCA poll. Adrian remained in the receiving votes category in the AFCA rankings.

The Scots now shift their attention to the postseason. Alma will travel to face UW–Platteville on November 29 in Wisconsin. The Pioneers enter the matchup ranked 10th by D3football.com and 13th in the AFCA poll.
