Alma, MI – Alma College Football celebrated Senior Day on Saturday when they welcomed in Kalamazoo College in MIAA conference play. The Scots scored a dominant victory, the final score resting at 53-3.
The Scots got on the board first, capping an 11 play, 90-yard drive with an
Eddie Williams touchdown run. A two-point conversion made it 8-0. The hosts struck again eight minutes later when
Brian Morgan punched in from one yard out to make it 15-0. Just moments later, a low snap resulted in a blocked punt by
Reed Seabase, which was recovered in the endzone by Drew Bradley for a touchdown. Alma led 22-0 after the opening quarter.
After a lot of back-and-forth in the second quarter. Kalamazoo managed a field goal with six minutes to play in the half, and Williams proceeded to find the endzone three more times in the final six minutes of the half, ballooning the Alma lead to 43-6 at the halftime break.
Out of the half, Morgan scored on a 63-yard rush to push the hosts to the 50-point mark, and a
Brice Kempf field goal from 23 yards out capped the scoring at 53-3.
Carter St. John was 12 of 18 for 167 passing yards in win.
Brian Morgan was the leading rusher with 138 yards and two touchdowns, and
Eddie Williams collected 97 yards and a whopping four touchdowns.
Sam Couch was the leading receiver on the day with 48 yards on three catches.
Defensively,
Ryan Kugelman led with six tackles. Alma got sacks from
Matt Oswald and
Xavier Urquhart. Urquhart also recovered one of three forced fumbles by the defense.
Nathan Sanders,
Preston Marlatt, and
Steven Lambert collected interceptions, and the defense broke up a season high nine passes.
Alma moves to 7-2 on the year with the win, 6-0 in the MIAA. Alma is in action next weekend when they welcome Adrian College to Bahlke Field.
