Football Scores Early and Often in MIAA Win Over Olivet

Alma notches their 4th straight win over Olivet with the 32-point victory

Olivet, MI - Alma College Football was in action on Saturday at The University of Olivet. Alma was victorious by a final of 53-21, improving to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA.

Alma wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Carter St. John to Brock Miller at 11:28 in the first quarter. Olivet answered to tie the game 7-7, but the Scots reasserted control with a 37-yard strike to Zach Poff, followed by a four-yard pass to Eddie Williams, bringing the score to 20-7 at the end of the opening quarter.

The second quarter saw Alma extend their lead with an 85-yard drive ending in a 10-yard TD pass to Miles Haggart. Though Olivet managed an 11-yard scoring pass to cut into the visitor's lead, the Scots responded with a pair of scoring plays before halftime, a 39-yard pass to Miller and a 44-yard run by Williams. The offensive burst at the end of the half pushed the Scots to a 39-14 halftime advantage.

Out of the halftime break, the visitors delivered a pair of quick scores: a three-yard touchdown run by Brian Morgan, followed by a 16-yard scoring run by Tyler Herzog, extending the margin to 53-14. Olivet capped the scoring in the fourth with a 23-yard interception return.

Alma piled up 641 total yards compared to Olivet's 323. Carter St. John racked up 186 yards and five touchdowns on 10 of 18 passing. Eddie Williams had another monster day, racking up 186 yards on the ground to lead all rushers. Brodrick Miller had a game-high 84 receiving yards. Brock Beaudrie and Ryan Kugelman each had a team-high five tackles, and Alma got interceptions from Preston Marlatt and Jett King.

With the victory, Alma rides a four-game winning streak heading into their next matchup at Trine.
