Alma, MI – Alma College Swimming and Diving was in action Saturday, celebrating senior day with a dual meet against Albion College. Alma was victorious on both the men's and women's sides for just the third time since the 1996-97 season.
Men (Alma 159, Albion 128)
Alma opened the meet strong, as
Morrison Wood,
Brent Riehl, Nolan Keiser, and
Owen Reed won the 200-medley relay for an early 11–4 lead. Albion responded with six straight event wins to move in front 74–55 at the first diving break, despite runner-up finishes from
Eli Mull (1000 free),
Colin Moran (200 free), Wood (100 back), Benkovsky (100 breast), and Keiser (50 free).
Cooper Couch stopped the skid by winning one-meter diving by 45 points. Out of the break, Riehl claimed Alma's first individual swim victory in the 100 free, and Wood followed with a win in the 200 back to help the Scots regain the lead at 92–87. Benkovsky added a win in the 200 breast, Mull took second in the 500 free, and Riehl earned another tight victory in the 100 fly to put Alma ahead 122–114 at the second diving break.
Couch delivered again with a three-meter win, stretching the margin to 131–118. Riehl then sealed the meet by taking the 200 IM, and the relay of Mull, Andrew Barret, Wood, and
Noah Newman closed the day with a 200 free relay win, giving Alma a 159–128 victory.
Women (Alma 186, Albion 106)
Alma started fast as the 200-medley relay team of
Sofia Floros,
Lily Smith,
Sierra Scott, and
Grace Ludema surged back for an opening win and an 11–4 lead. Albion answered in the 1000 free, but Alma's depth kept the margin intact before
Laney Voisinet claimed the 200 free. Smith followed with a win in the 100 breast, and Ludema dominated the 50 free to help the Scots take a 78–47 advantage at the first diving break.
In one-meter diving,
Abby Dumond placed third as Albion trimmed the margin to 22 points. Ludema responded with another decisive win in the 100 free, and Alma broke the meet open with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 back from
Zoe Barringer,
Megan Black, and
Aubrey Hawks. Smith then won the 200 breast and Floros the 200 back, sending Alma into the second diving break up 151–85.
Dumond finished second on three-meter, and the Scots added another 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 IM from
Delilah Zingelewicz,
Emma Hoy, and
Sarah Rabbideau. Scott, Voisinet, Floros, and Ludema closed the day with a win in the 200 free relay, sealing a 186–106 Alma victory.
Alma looks forward to the Malone Invite on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, before hitting a mid-season competition break.
