ADRIAN, Mich. – Hitting the road again in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, the Alma College women's soccer team traveled southeast to Adrian, Michigan to face off against the Bulldogs of Adrian College on Wednesday, October 8th. The Scots fell behind early before tying the game back right away, though the Bulldogs would add four unanswered to come away with a 5-1 win over Alma.
Adrian opened the game with a handful of shots on net to put the Scots in their defensive formation early on. The Bulldogs would break the ice as the 17:30 mark of the first half, opening what would be an onslaught of scoring in a very short amount of time. Following the ensuing kickoff, Alma tied the game right back up in 16 seconds on a goal from Ava Hoffman, assisted by Emily Ahearn. Just 18 seconds later, Adrian would again take the lead on a goal again following the kickoff, for three goals in 33 seconds. After the quick burst of chaos, the game would settle back down for about ten minutes before the Bulldogs would increase their lead to two, adding a goal at the 29th minute. The first half would end with the score 3-1 in favor of Adrian, keeping the Scots within striking distance.
Opening the second half, Adrian netted another insurance goal just over three minutes into action, starting to pull away from the Scots as time played in favor of the Bulldogs moving forward. Alma would respond following the goal with some offensive pressure with an array of shots, though nothing would find pay dirt. The Bulldogs would add the final tally in the 77th minute, putting the game away and handing Alma their third loss in conference play as Adrian moved to 1-1 in MIAA play.
Ahearn led the Scots in shots on goal with two in the full 90 minutes and Min Coulombe earned her second start between the pipes, making ten saves throughout the contest.
Alma will return home and host the Hornets of Kalamazoo College on Saturday, October 11th, at Scotland Yard. Kickoff for the Saturday matinee is set for 3:00 PM.
