ALMA, Mich. – Returning to action on home soil at Scotland Yard, the Alma College women's soccer team took the field against Kalamazoo College for a Saturday afternoon match on October 11th. The game ended as a draw between the Scots and Hornets, with a final score of 1-1.
In a tightly contested conference matchup Kalamazoo looked to continue their winning streak while the Scots looked to bounce back after a tough start to conference play. The visitors struck first in the 38th minute, when the Hornets finished off a feed from a corner kick to make it 1–0. Just before halftime, Alma answered with a momentum-shifting goal from Allyson Harvey, assisted by Anna Waterstredt, as Harvey drilled home the equalizer in the 43rd minute, sending the match into the break tied.
The second half saw both teams press for the winner. Kalamazoo controlled much of the possession and peppered shots into the Alma end, but the Scots' defense and keeper Mya Pofahl held firm. Alma also pushed forward at times, including a strong right-side effort by Bryn Bishop that forced a save by Kalamazoo's keeper. Late cautions and substitutions added some tension, but neither side caved keeping both teams knotted until the final buzzer. In the end, the game ended in a 1–1 draw, each team leaving with a point.
Pofahl finished the game playing all 90 minutes making four saves. Kalamazoo's Jess Forbis made two saves over the full time. Alma ended the game with five shots to the Hornets 10, five of which being on net.
Alma will play their final non-conference contest of the season as they will travel to Wisconsin to take on Maranatha Baptist University on Tuesday, October 14th. Kick off will happen at 1:00 PM CT or 2:00 PM ET.
