Riehl Takes Down Breaststroke Record as Swimming Closes 2024 Competition

Canton, OH – Alma College Swimming took to the water at Malone University, taking part in the Malone Invitational. The Scots had great showings all around, with multiple personal bests, and an Alma College record falling.
 
Alma's men finished 11 of 14 teams on the weekend. Eli Mull scored a 10th place finish in the 500 freestyle to kick things off, also taking 14th in the 200 free, and 4th in the 1650 free. Owen Reed was 19th in the 500 freestyle. Brent Riehl was Alma's record breaker on the weekend. Riehl broke the Alma College 100 breaststroke record, finishing in 58.75 to take 7th. He also finished 14th in the 50 freestyle, and 13th in the 100 freestyle. Ryan Gray placed 16th in the 200 backstroke, and Kyle Scheck took 24th in the 200 breaststroke.
 
In relay action, Gray, Riehl, Max Nielsen, and Mull combined to take 9th in the 400 medley relay. Gray, Riehl, and Nielsen teamed up with Andrew Barrett placed 10th in the 200 medley relay. The team of Riehl, Mull, Reed, and Ryan Fowler picked up an 8th place finish in the 800 free relay. Gray, Mull, Nielsen, and Riehl took 12th in the 400 free relay.
 
For the Scots women, Megan Neeley opened with an 8th place finish in the 500 freestyle, also taking 8th in the 200 backstroke. Sofia Floros took 13th in the 500 freestyle, placing 13th in the 100 backstroke, and 7th in the 200 backstroke. Grace Ludema took 5th in the 50 freestyle, also placing 4th in the 100 free, and 9th in the 200 freestyle. Laney Voisinet placed 14th in the 50 free, taking 16th in the 100 free. Madi Mendez took 21st in the 200 freestyle, also taking 13th in the 1650 freestyle. Kylie Demarets took 22nd. Lily Smith claimed 9th place in the 100 breaststroke, also taking 13th in the 200 breast. Emma Figlewicz placed 16th in the 200 butterfly
 
When it came to relays, Neeley, Voisinet, Floros, and Ludema took 4th in the 200 free relay. The team of Demarets, Smith, Figlewicz, and Megan Black took 13th in the 400 medley relay. Leading off day 2, Floros, Smith, Figlwicz, and Ludema placed 6th in the 200 medley relay. Voisinet, Neeley, Floros, and Demarets took home 3rd in the 800 free relay. Closing out the meet, Neeley, Voisinet, Floros, and Ludema placed 4th in the 400 free relay.
 
The Scots end competition in 2024 on a high note, and won't return to action until January, when they welcome Manchester University in for their home opener.
