The Scots Men's and Women's tennis teams are heading into the fall season looking to bounce back from a spring, where the Scots' finishing records didn't reflect the learning experiences gained by returning athletes.
Under the leadership of returning coach Jared Guy ('16), the Scots look forward to a busy fall schedule that should give experience for the athletes to take into the conference season that arrives in spring 2024. "(I'm) Very excited to see what we can do this season. Feels like we are gaining momentum on both the men's and women's side. Hoping to see us take another step forward this year." says Coach Guy.
The men's teams first scheduled competition will be at Spring Arbor University on Saturday the 16th of September at 9:30 AM, while the women open their season at home against Cornerstone university on the 9th of September at noon. The men are returning a large group, with vast amounts of competition experience. On the flip side the women's team is very young with both returners and incoming freshman looking to step up and contribute to the team.
On the men's side, some Scots to look for an impact from on the court is doubles partners Jake Lasceski and Ashton Trnka. The pair of sophomores are coming off an excellent freshman season that saw the pair pick up doubles wins at all but 1 meet.
For the women, Kayla Weller heads into her junior year, her third a number one singles, and two freshman Leah Wronikowski and Karly Kushner have a great opportunity to play a huge role in the fall competition.
The match the Scots are looking forward to this fall is the weekend of the 23rd which includes the men's home opener against Michigan State' s Club team followed by a Sunday doubles style tournament in Albion. "Tournaments are always a nice way for the team to rally around each other and just have a full day of good tennis with a team goal in mind." Says Guy.
