Men's and Women's Tennis Close Out Regular Season on High Note

Alma, MI – Alma College Tennis closed out the regular season last week, with both the men's and women's teams traveling to Olivet, and hosting Albion. The Scots picked up wins in all matches on the week, with Alma's men clinching an MIAA tournament berth in the process.

WOMEN
Alma 7, Olivet 0
In doubles play, Alma claimed the team point, sweeping all three pairings. Kayla Weller and Leah  Wronikowski won 6-2 at #1 doubles. The #2 pairing of Karly Kushner and Jada Zerlaut took home a victory via a 6-1 score. Holly Hall and Laney Voisinet won 6-2 at #3.

In singles play, Kushner won 6-1, 6-1 at #1. Wronikowski was victorious by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at #2, and the #3 match went to Weller via a 6-0, 6-1 final. Zerlaut won 6-0, 6-0 at #4, and Holly Hall took home a win, 6-0, 6-1 at #5. Salma Laraichi closed things out at #6 with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Alma 6, Albion 1
On Thursday, the Scots welcomed Albion College to the Superior Street Tennis Complex. The Scots took the doubles point, winning a pair of doubles matches. Wronikowski and Weller won 6-1 at #1. The #2 pairing of Kushner and Zerlaut won 7-5. At #3, Larachi and Voisinet were defeated 6-2.

Moving to singles play, Wronikowski won at #1 singles 6-0, 6-0. Weller won at #2 with an identical score, and Zerlaut followed at #3 with a clean sweep as well. At #4, Hall was victorious by a final of 6-1, 7-6, winning the tiebreaker in set two 7-5. Laraichi was felled 6-4, 7-5 at #5 singles, and Ashlyn McDonald won 7-6, 6-1 at #6 to close things out.
 
MEN
Alma 6, Albion 1
Hosting Albion in their home finale, Alma took the doubles team point with two of three matches. Jake Lasceski and Ashton Trnka were felled at #1, 6-4. Tatenda Mukudu and August Sack won 6-3 at #2. The #3 pairing of John Laxton and Eli Festerling won 6-3.

In singles play, Lasceski won at #1, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0. Sack won at #2 by finals of 7-6, 6-4. Festerling was defeated 6-1, 6-3 at #3, and Trnka took home a 7-5, 6-0 win at #4. Mukudu won 6-2, 7-5 at #5 singles, and Laxton rounded things out with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at #6.
 
Alma 5, Olivet 2
On Wendesday, the Scots traveled to Olivet to close out the regular season. Alma swept doubles play to earn the team point. The due of Lasceski and Trnka won 7-5 at #1. Mukudu and Sack claimed a 6-2 win at #2, and the #3 pairing of Festerling and Laxton took home a 6-0 win.

In singles play, Lasceski won 6-1, 6-3 at #1. Sack claimed the #2 match by finals of 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Festerling won at #3 by scores of 6-2, 6-2. Trnka was defeated 6-2, 6-3 at #4, as was Laxton at #6 by finals of 6-1, 6-2. Mukudu won at #5 with scores of 6-3, 0-6, 6-2.

Alma's men qualify for the MIAA tournament for the first time since 2015, and play #3 seed Calvin on Saturday.
