Â
ALBION, Mich. – The Alma College tennis program competed for the first time under first year Head Coach
Lucas Huffman on Saturday, participating in the Albion Doubles Tournament that took place inside the
Ungrodt Tennis Center.
Â
The ladies were well-represented on the winner's side of the bracket as
Karly Kushner and
Leah Wronikowski swept Olivet's Girard / Lewis in the opening matchup and then took down Albion's Feasby / Lattig in the semifinals, ultimately finishing the A Draw as the runner-up to Spring Arbor's tandem of Page / Codita. Taking part in the B Draw for the Scots was
Izzy Troost and
Salma Laraichi who split their two contests, winning the third-place match over Albion's Farnese / Nigg in convincing fashion, 6-1. Joining their teammates in the A Bracket,
Norah Lacher and
Kayden Alli ended their day with a dub, defeating Spring Arbor's Wallstrom / Schmitt in a back-and-forth battle, 6-4.
Â
Alex Jonas and
Liam Luedeman came away victorious in two of their three games playing on A Draw, falling in the first round before bouncing back to dispatch Olivet's Anderson / Wright (6-4) as well as Albion's Kubiak / McKendry (6-3) to claim fifth. The power of brotherly love propelled
Daniel Hickey and
Sean Hickey to fifth place in the B Bracket, deploying a little friendly fire in the process as they had to defeat their fellow Scots duo of
John Laxton and
Connor Hill to do so.
Â
Next:
The women will be in action next, taking their talents to Kalamazoo from September 25-27 for the ITA Tournament whereas the men return to the court for its own ITA event, but not until October 2-4 in Brownsburg, Indiana.
