Alma's Guy to Depart Tennis Program After Five Seasons

Alma, MI - After five seasons leading the Alma College Tennis program, Jared Guy '16 will be stepping down from his post as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach to pursue a different career opportunity.

"We would like to thank Jared for all of his contributions to the Alma College Tennis program." Said Interim Director of Athletics Kiana Verdugo-Maday. "We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

Guy was elevated to the post of head coach, after serving as Alma's assistant coach for two seasons.

"I want to thank everyone at Alma who helped to give me this opportunity, and all those who gave me guidance in my time here." Said Guy. "Alma will always be a cherished place to me. I am proud of what I did here in four years playing and seven years coaching. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything, and will miss Alma every day. This is a special place filled with amazing people. Out of all the thank you's I could give out, the biggest ones have to go to the players that I was lucky enough to coach, and help prepare for the next phase of life. They gave me the best job in the world. I will forever and always be a Scot."

Guy has picked up a total of 40 victories, and collected 17 wins in MIAA conference play.

His highlights from his time at Alma include the men's program picking up their first MIAA tournament berth in a decade in 2025. The women's program scored a comeback win over Trine in 2024, the first time the Scots had bested the Thunder since 2016. The women also recorded their highest finish since 2013 with a 6th place mark in 2024.

He was responsible for coaching three All-MIAA selections. He also coached a pair of Sue Little Sportsmanship Award winners. Emily McDonald won in 2022, and Jada Zerlaut won in 2024. Brendan Murdie won the Stowe Sportsmanship Award in 2022, and Caleb Schuring won the Lawrence Green Academic Award on the men's side in 2024.

Guy, a 2016 Alma College graduate, has been a USPTA certified teaching professional for the past four years. During his four years of playing for the Scots, Guy was three-year captain and named All-MIAA twice. In his senior season, he received the Stowe Sportsmanship Award.

He received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Alma in 2016.
