Jared Guy '16 will enter his 5th season as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach in the Fall of 2024.
Guy became head coach, after serving as the assistant coach under Chris Sandro for the past two seasons.
Guy's 2023-24 women's team posted a 5-9 record, with a 3-5 mark in MIAA play. Highlighted by a comeback win over Trine, the first time the Scots had bested the Thunder since 2016, the 3 MIAA wins are the highest since 2013, and saw Alma secure a 6th place finish, also a program high since 2013. Jada Zerlaut was named the Sue Little Award winner for her sportsmanship. She is the second winner of the award under Guy, with Emily McDonald also winning in 2022.
In 2023-24, Guy's men's program collected 3 wins, with 2 of them coming in MIAA play. Caleb Schuring was the recipient of the Lawrence Green Academic Award.
Guy has picked up 17 wins on the women's side, with 11 more on the men's side. He has coached 3 All-MIAA players.
"We are so happy to have Jared step into this new role with the Alma College Scots," Dehring said. "To have someone that knows these programs so well as a coach and as a player himself will be very rewarding for our tennis athletes. I also want to thank Chris for his work as the head coach of the men's program since 2006 and the women's program since 2013. He will continue to mentor our Scots and help build toward the future of these programs."
Guy, a 2016 Alma College graduate, has been a USPTA certified teaching professional for the past four years. Since joining the coaching staff he has coached an All-MIAA selection and a Allen Stowe Sportsmanship Award winner. During his four years of playing for the Scots, Guy was three-year captain and named All-MIAA twice. In his senior season, Guy received the Stowe Sportsmanship Award.
"I am very excited for the opportunity Alma College has given me," Guy said. "As an alum, a four-year tennis player, and an assistant coach the last two seasons, Alma and the people here have played a huge role in my life. Being given the chance to continue to build a program I love being a part of is incredibly humbling. I want to thank President Abernathy, Sarah Dehring and the rest of Alma College for this opportunity. Huge thank you to Coach Sandro for being a great Coach, teacher, and role model to me for the past seven or so years. I also want to thank the players for accepting me with open arms and making this a very fun job. I am looking forward to continuing to work with everyone and representing Alma College out on the court. Go Scots!"
Guy received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Alma in 2016, he attended Portland High School where he was named All-State in boys tennis.
