Men's Lacrosse Dropped by Thunder

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team opened up conference play at home on Bahlke Filed on Saturday, April 8th. The Scots hung around with the Thunder of Trine University but were defeated by a final score of 15-7.

The Thunder opened up the scoring just over five minutes into the game but Alma had an answer not too long after. Kevin Koenn put the Scots on the board with a goal on a pass from Ryan O'Loughlin to tie the game, 1-1. Trine added two more in a three-minute span to go up two but Alma was quick to respond after the second. Haden Johnson scored at the 1:18 mark to bring the Scots within one before Anar Tumurbaatar scored with 56 seconds remaining on a man-up opportunity to tie the game, 3-3.

In the second quarter, trine regained the lead four minutes in but Alma again had a response. Koenn recorded his second of the game after taking a pass from Drew Gulick and snuck one past the goalkeeper to tie the lead again. The Thunder added two more before the end of the half and Alma trailed two heading into halftime. 

After a third quarter opening faceoff win, Byron Weber raced down the field and sent a shot past the keeper to bring the Scots within one just eight seconds into the quarter. Trine tallied the next three goals to extend their lead in the third before Tumurbaatar cut into the lead with a goal just under the eight-minute mark. The Thunder responded with another goal and Alma ended the third trailing 10-6.

The Scots were able to record the first goal of the fourth as Haden Johnson scored on a man-up opportunity by a feed from Tumurbaatar just over thirty seconds into the quarter. Trine would ultimately add on five more goals and hand the Scots their first loss in conference play this season.

Three Scots player recorded two goals in the contest with Tumurbaatar leading the team on a two goal and one assist performance. Weber scooped up five ground balls for a team-high along with Tumurbaater causing two turnovers for Alma. Thomas Burns was given the nod to start in the net for Alma and recorded 13 saves for the game. Weber was also 13-24 from the faceoff dot for the day.

The Scots will now travel to Adrian on Wednesday, April 12th, for a midweek matchup with the Bulldogs. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
