Men's Lacrosse Downed by Flying Dutchmen

Box Score

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team wrapped up their final home regular season game on Wednesday, April 26th, at Bahlke Field. The Scots faced the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College in a game where Hope came away with the win, 24-4.

The Flying Dutchmen got out to a quick start scoring four goals in five minutes to jump out to an early lead. Alma had their chances early on but struggled to find the quality scoring chances as Hope defended strongly. After the first, Hope led 10-0. In the second quarter, the Flying Dutchmen added more runs on while holding the Scots off the board as heading into halftime, Alma trailed 18-0.

Coming out of the break Hope scored the first goal of the second half before Byron Weber put Alma on the board with their first of the game as he battled in a scramble in front of the net and slid it past the goalkeeper. The Scots were awarded a man-up opportunity after an offside call against Hope and Alma look to keep the offensive pressure on. Just ten seconds into the penalty, Haden Johnson found the back of the net giving Alma their second unanswered goal. Johnson would score the next Alma goal six minutes later on a pass from Anar Tumurbaatar setting Johnson up for an open shot. The Flying Dutchmen would stop the scoring run for Alma with a goal of their own as time dwindled down in the third but a faceoff win with 15 seconds left gave Alma a last chance in the quarter. Ryan O'Loughlin raced down the field and fired a shot from 15 feet out that flew past the goalie and gave Alma their fourth with just several seconds remaining in the quarter. The Flying Dutchmen added four unanswered goals in the final quarter to walk away with a 24-4 win over the Scots.

Johnsons two goals were the team-high for the night in points as he was the only multi-point player for Alma. Joey Allen and Weber both tied for a team-high five groundballs as well as Allen led the team in caused turnovers with two for the night.

Alma will now travel to Albion College for a final MIAA matchup for the regular season. The first faceoff is set to begin at 7:00 PM.
