Johnson Tallies Four Goals as Scots Travel to Ohio

Box Score

ADA, Ohio – The Alma College men's lacrosse team traveled to Ohio for a non-conference matchup with the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University. Alma was defeated by a final score of 17-6.

ONU got on the board just over a minute into the game to kick off the scoring. Alma held the Polar Bears scoreless for the next ten minutes until they were able to knot the game at one's from Aaron Zettel. ONU would add another tally to end the first quarter, Alma down 2-1.

The Polar Bears added three more goals in the first four minutes of the second to increase their lead to four before a goal by Anar Tumurbaatar would bring it back down to three. Ohio Northern added three more goals in the second quarter making the score 8-2. Both teams would hold each other scoreless the last seven minutes of the second half heading into halftime.

ONU would add five goals in the third to increase the lead to 13-2 going into the fourth quarter. After an early ONU goal, Haden Johnson found the back of the net thanks to a feed from Tumurbaatar, breaking the scoring drought for the Scots. Johnson would add another just over three minutes later for his second of the game. After two Polar Bear goals, Johnson once again found the back of the net while being man-up for his third goal of the game, all consecutively. Ezra Leppanen would join in on the action and add a goal of his own before Johnson would find the net one more time before the end of the game. Alma's last quarter push wasn't enough and would drop to 1-1 on the season.

Johnson led the way with four points while Tumurbaatar and Leppanen both added two points. Drew Gulick recorded an assist on a Johnson goal for his point in the contest. Thomas Burns made 15 saves throughout the contest, playing the full time. Patrick Hodges led the Scots defensively recording two caused turnovers. Owen Armstrong collected four ground balls to lead the team.

Alma will now travel home and get ready for a weekend matchup vs Carthage College (WI) on Saturday, February 25, at 1:00 PM at Bahlke Field.
