Alma 6, Saint Francis (IN) 1
FORT WAYNE, IN - The Alma College Women's tennis took to the road down to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the University of Saint Francis Cougars for their 2022-23 season opener on September 17.
The Cougars defaulted the 3 doubles and 6 singles flight to put the Scots up 2-0 before the play began. The Scots ran away with the early lead to win the match-up in decisive fashion 6-1 to go up 1-0 on the season. Head coach Jared Guy commented on the women's play, "First match jitters were evident, but despite a nervous start it was nice to get a comfortable win to start the year."
Sophomore transfer Bronwyn McAlindon clinched her first win as an Alma Scot at the 5 singles position in dramatic fashion with a third set tiebreak win score of 10-5 to win the match 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.
The Scots will continue their road trip on September 18 when they travel to Manchester, Indiana to take on the Manchester University Spartans. Go Scots!
Alma 5, Manchester 4
MANCHESTER, IN - The Alma Women's Tennis team traveled to Manchester, Indiana to take on the Manchester University Spartans for their second match of the weekend road trip. The Scots came out on top with an intense 5-4 win that came down to the last match on court.
After dropping the first four matches to be down 0-4, the Scots needed the remaining five singles flights to win, in order to win the match. With one match remaining on court, the overall score was tied 4-4, senior Elizabeth Hill at the 3 singles flight clinched the match win in a third set tiebreak with a match score of 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
Head coach Jared Guy commented on the win with, "Being down 0-4 is obviously never a spot you want to be in, especially when a lot of the deficit is self-inflicted, but we really dug in and fought our way back. Huge credit to the girls for being able to recover mentally and complete an awesome comeback win."
MEN
Saint Francis (IN) 5, Alma 2
FORT WAYNE, IN - The Alma College Men's tennis team traveled down to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the University of Saint Francis Cougars for their first match of the 2022-2023 season on September 17.
The Scots ultimately fell to the Cougars 2-5 to move to 0-1 on the season. Head coach Jared Guy said, "The guys played well and put themselves in great spots to win, but just didn't execute when they needed to. There were a lot of promising things to take from this match, especially with it being our first of the year. I'm excited to see where the season goes with this group of men."
Freshman Ashton Trnka picked up his first win as a Scot with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-0 at the 6 singles position. Sophomore August Sack also picked up a win for the Scots at the 2 singles position.
At the 3 doubles position, freshmen pair of Jake Lasceski and Ashton Trnka got their first doubles win with the score of 6-4, but due to the recent scoring change by the NCAA the match doesn't count towards the overall score, but will count towards their personal records.

Alma 9, Manchester (IN) 0
MANCHESTER, IN - Alma Men's Tennis team continued on the road to Manchester, Ind. on Sunday to take on the Manchester University Spartans to conclude their first road trip of the season. The men brought the brooms out to sweep the Spartans 9-0 to move 1-1 on the season.
Freshman Jake Lasceski got his first singles match win at the 3 singles flight with the dominating score of 6-1, 6-1. The one doubles pairing of Caleb Schuring and August Sack picked up their first win of the season with the score of 8-5.
Head coach Jared Guy noted on the win, "It was great to see them continue to play the level of tennis they did to open the weekend and take care of business."
The men's tennis team has a break in their season, they will continue play on October 1 in a quad doubles event as their home opener.
The Scots have a break and will be back on court on October 1 to compete in a quad doubles event for their home opener. Go Scots!
