Alma, MI – Alma College Tennis hosted Manchester University on Saturday afternoon, hitting the halfway point in the halfway point of their fall season. Alma was dominant, winning both the men's and women's matches by scores of 7-0.
For the women, the Scots swept doubles action, led by the duo of
Karly Kushner and
Leah Wronikowski, who won 6-1 at #1. At #2 doubles,
Izzy Troost and
Laney Voisinet won 6-0, as did the Hall sisters, Holly and Mellany, at #3.
In singles play, Kushner won at #1, and
Holly Hall at #2, both by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Sophua Hauffe won 6-1, 6-0 at #3, as did
Kayden Alli at #4.
Salma Laraichi won the first set at #5, and was leading the second before her opponent retired due to injury. Rounding things out at #6,
Mellany Hall won 6-2, 6-1 to complete the 7-0 sweep.
For the men, the Scots swept doubles play, with the team of
Alex Jonas and
John Laxton winning 6-1 at #1. The #2 pairing of
Logan Stack and
Daniel Hickey won 6-0, and
Christian Beyers and
Jacob McNew pulled out a 6-3 victory at #3.
Moving into singles play, Jonas won 6-3, 6-1 at #1. Beyers won 6-3, 6-0 at #2, and McNew swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #3. Laxton nearly pulled off the same feat at #4, winning 6-0, 6-1. #5 and #6 both went the distance, and both matches tipped Alma's way to give the Scots a 7-0 victory. Hickey won at #5 by scores of 6-2, 5-7, 10-5. At #6, Stack was victorious 6-1, 2-6, 10-7.
Both Alma's men and women move to 1-1, and have some time off before taking on Earlham on October 11
th.
