Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Tennis continued MIAA play this week, with the Scots picking up a pair of wins, and increasing their win streak to 3 in a row.
Alma 9, Albion 0
The Scots got off to a cracking start in mid-week play at Albion, sweeping the Britons 9-0.
The team of
Kayla Weller and
Leah Wronikowski won at #1 doubles 8-0. At #2 doubles,
Karly Kushner and
Jada Zerlaut won 8-7, and #3 doubles went to Alma, with
Annie Ross and
Holly Hall winning 8-6. Alma led 3-0 after doubles play.
The Scots continued to dominate at the top of singles play. #1 and #2 doubles were flawless 6-0, 6-0 wins, with Kushner (#1) and Wronikowski (#2) doing the honors. Weller won 6-4, 6-3 at #3 singles. At #4 Zerlaut was victorious 6-1, 6-2. Hall won at #5 6-1, 6-1, and Ross completed the sweep, winning 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 at #6.
Alma 5, Trine 4
The Scots welcomed Trine University on Saturday. The Scots defeated the Thunder for the first time since 2016.
Trine took an early lead in doubles play. Weller and Wronikowski narrowly lost 8-7 at #1. At #2 doubles, Kushner and Zerlaut fell 8-5. Ross and Hall were victorious 8-4 at #3 doubles to get Alma on the board, but the Scots trailed 2-1 after doubles play.
Trine pushed things to the brink early in singles play. Kushner was defeated at #1 singles 6-1, 6-1. Wronikowski was felled 7-5, 6-0 at #2.
Hall was able to pull out a win at 6-1, 6-3 at #5 singles, and Ross picked up a win 6-3, 6-1 at #6. This put Alma down 4-3 with #3 and #4 singles both heading to a third set, and the match on the line.
The Scots picked up a win at #4 from Zerlaut 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The win was sealed when a long return gave Weller the win at #3: 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
The Scots move to 3-3 in MIAA play, and head to Adrian on Monday.
