Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team traveled to Kalamazoo College on Saturday, April 16. The scots won 15-9 to improve to 1-2 in conference play.
The first quarter was an even match-up between the Scots and the Hornets with two goals each. Anar Tumurbaatar kicked off the scoring in the first few minutes of the play with a goal and Kalamazoo added one for a score of 1-1. Haden Johnson found Ezra Leppanen at the five-minute mark for a 2-1 lead. The Hornets added one more goal for a score of 2-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The game continued point-for-point in the second quarter as Leppanen found two openings in the net and the Hornets matched, 4-4.
Alma pulled away in the third quarter with six goals to Kalamazoo's two. Leppanen contributed four of the goals while Tumurbaatar and Drew Gulick added one each, 10-6.
Byron Weber started the fourth quarter off with an unassisted goal followed by two from Kalamazoo. Paul Heuschele responded with an unassisted goal and Kalamazoo added on more to the board before Lucas Gratz, Evan Zarotney, and Kevin Koenn found the cage for a final score of 15-9.
Leppanen led the Scots with seven points and Tumurbattar added four points off two goals and two assists. Weber had five groundballs and Joey Allen added two caused turnovers. Goalie Thomas Burns had nine saves on the day.
Next, Alma heads back to Bahlke Field on Friday, April 22 to play Calvin University.
