Box Score ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team faced Augustana College on Saturday, March 26. The Scots finished down, 13-11.
Augustana started off hot in the first few minutes of play with two consecutive goals. Alma fired back with three unassisted goals in the first quarter from Drew Gulick, Haden Johnson, and Byron Weber.
Weber added another goal to start off the second quarter to put the score at, 4-2, in the Scots' favor. One minute later, the Vikings found the net for another three-goal streak. Johnson responded with another unassisted goal followed by Gulick with another goal. Weber found the assist to Anar Tumurbaatar to put the score at, 7-5. Augustana added two more points to the board and then Johnson grabbed the lead with his third goal of the quarter for a halftime score of, 8-7.
The third quarter was all Augustana with four goals to put the Vikings ahead, 11-8, heading to the final minutes of play.
Gulick kicked off the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal, but Augustana matched his point, 12-9. Tumurbaatar found the net off Evan Zarotney and Weber made an unassisted play to put the Scots in reach of the lead, 12-11. The Vikings secured the win with a goal in the last minute of play for a final score of, 13-11.
Weber led the Scots with four points off three goals and one assist. Gulick and Johnson followed close behind with three goals each. Goalie Thomas Burns had nine saves on the day. Alma had 37 groundballs to Augustana's 33.
Next, Alma heads to Earlham College on Saturday, April 2 for their next competition.
