Alma, MI – Alma Swimming and Diving took to the pool hosting Aquinas College on Saturday in dual meet action. The women were victorious by a score of 128-73, claiming their first dual meet victory since 2019. The Alma men fell just short, falling by a score of 110-95. The entire meet featured fantastic time drops all over the board from both sides.
The women's meet featured Alma victories right from the start. The relay team of Marissa Luzac, Emily Diener, Dani Ries, and Lily Brown combined to take home victory in the 400-medley relay. From there Megan Neeley took victory in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:38.23. After an Aquinas victory, Grace Ludema picked up a win for Alma in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.74. That win was backed up by a Luzac first place finish in the 400 IM, with a 5:30.87 as her final time. Dani Ries made it 3 in a row in the 100 butterfly, winning in a time of 1:03.30. Ludema continued the winning ways with a 55.87 in the 100 freestyle, and Neeley picked up her second win of the say with a 1:04.50 in the 100 backstroke. Aquinas broke up the streak winning the 500 freestyle and won the 100 breaststroke, although Alma exhibitioned all 3 of their swimmers in the event, with Emily Diener throwing down a 1:14.59. Finally, Alma's A relay team of Ludema, Abby Taylor, Laney Voisinet, and Neeley put up a time of 3:49.66 in the 400 free relay..
The men's meet was a much more back and forth affair. After Aquinas picked up a win in the opening relay, Alma came back with a dominant 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle. Freshman Eli Mull took victory with a time of 10:23.80. He was followed by Nate Sutton and Seth Stahl. Jack Knoper took second in the 200 freestyle posting a 5 second time drop. Brent Riehl would pull the Scots to within single digits with a 22.06 in the 50 free, earning him victory. Aquinas took the 400 IM and 100 butterfly, with the Scots posting second place finishes and time drops from Matt Arrigoni and Ryan Gray. Riehl showed up once again with another massive swim. He threw down a 48.86 to take victory in the 100 freestyle. Aquinas nabbed a win in the 100 backstroke, and Alma hit back with Mull posting a 5:02.65 to win the 500 freestyle. Finally, the team of Riehl, Arrigoni, Gray, and Sutton came together to take second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:21.49.
The Scots will be back in action on November 11th at Hope College.
