Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team lost, 10-7, to the Trine University Thunder on Saturday in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The loss ends the Scots' season while the Thunder advance to the conference semifinals.
Alma took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Trevor Bailey and Connor Alley in the first quarter. Trine responded with six-straight goals to take a four-goal lead halfway through the second quarter.
Bailey then netted his second goal of the game to make it 6-3 at halftime. Alma cut the deficit to two about five minutes into the start of the third quarter with Alley once again finding the back of the net.
Trine went on a 3-0 run to push its lead to five. The Scots rallied late in the fourth with back-to-back goals by Byron Weber and then a score by Bailey that made it a two-goal game with just over a minute remaining.
The Thunder were able to run out the clock on the Scots, they scored the final goal of the contest with three seconds left.
Bailey led the team with three goals and one assist. Anar Tumurbaatar posted two assists. Chase Hunyadi and Haden Johnson each had an assist.
Connor Gilbert had a game-high six ground balls while Paul Heuschele had thee. Evan Zarotney led the team with three caused turnovers while Nicholas Dilly and Joey Allen both had two. Gilbert won 10 faceoffs on the day.
Thomas Burns made six save in net for the Scots. Alma finishes its season with a 5-10 record.
