Box Score ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse team won, 11-7, over the Adrian College Bulldogs Tuesday night at Bahlke Field. It was the Scots first victory of the season as their record improves to 1-3 while Adrian drops to 0-1.
The Scots and Bulldogs played a tight defensive first quarter with the game tied at one a piece after the first frame. Alma then went on four goal run to start the second quarter to push ahead to a 5-1 lead.
With the score at 5-2 in favor of the Scots, Alma took advantage of a man-up opportunity with Haden Johnson setting Connor Alley for the goal. At the end of the first half, the Scots led, 6-3.
Ezra Leppanen netted the first goal of the second half for the Scots to make it 7-3. Alma then was able to kill off a man-down opportunity where two players sat in the penalty box to keep its lead at four.
Alley then made a nice deke around a defender and beat the Adrian netminder to make it 8-3 in the third. At the end of the frame, the Scots led, 8-4.
In the fourth quarter, Alma kept its foot on the gas pedal with Alley scoring two more goals. Leppanen then found of the back net on the man-up opportunity to make it a five-goal game with less than four minutes remaining. Adrian ended up scoring the final goal of the game in the final minute.
Alley and Leppanen ended up with four goals each. Trevor Bailey scored two goals and added one assist. Haden Johnson had a three-point night as well.
Byron Weber had a game-high seven ground balls while winning 14-of-21 faceoffs. Alley, Anar Tumurbaatar, and Alexander Stevenson each tallied two caused turnovers.
Parker Macco earned his first career win in net with eight saves. Thomas Burns also made two saves in relief.
Alma will host Albion College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start time.
