Streaky Shooting Send Scots Past UW-Stout

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team easily handled the University of Wisconsin-Stout 95-71 on Saturday (Nov. 30) afternoon. Alma improves to 3-2 with the win while UW-Stout falls to 2-4.

Senior guard Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) became the program's all-time assist leader with 421 in his career. He had seven against the Blue Devils to go along with seven points and four rebounds.

Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) had a monster game, going for 32 points and six rebounds. He was particularly unstoppable in the first half when he scored 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) became the eighth player in program history to make at least six three-pointers in a game. He finished with 22 points and four assists. Brandon Rake (Whitehall, Mich. / Whitehall) added 11 and seven rebounds while Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) had three points and a team-high nine boards.

The three-ball was working for the Scots all game. They made nine of their 15 attempts from three in the first half and cooled down a bit in the second but still finished the game going 14-for-29 (48 percent).

In addition to Alma's hot first-half shooting, it held UW-Stout to under 36 percent from the field. The Scots opened up a double-digit lead midway through the first half and got it up to as much as 21 in the first half before taking a 54-38 lead at halftime.

The Scots kept the pressure on in the second half, forcing UW-Stout to a worse shooting percentage than the first half. The Blue Devils shot 31 percent from the field and 30 percent from deep while Alma padded its lead to as much as 28. Woodruff led all players with 13 second-half points.

Alma had 38 points in the paint to UW-Stout's 18. Alma also had 31 fastbreak points.

The Scots remain at home for their next game. They'll host UW-Oshkosh on Friday (Dec. 6) at 7:00 p.m. Alma fell to the No. 7 Titans by 25 last year.
